What if…the secret to keeping students in school was getting them into the workforce?

At Brewer High School, that's been a key aspect of a new approach that's boosting student learning and achievement. Like many districts, Brewer struggled with absenteeism and student engagement after the pandemic. In response it's embraced work-based learning, and specifically, Extended Learning Opportunities -- or ELO's. Now, more than 70 Brewer High students head off campus and head to businesses, forests, construction sites, and more.

The result: increased graduation rates and more students engaged in their learning.
