EPISODE THREE: TELSTAR FRESHMAN ACADEMY
Bethel's Telstar High School is Rethinking 9th Grade. Every Freshman Heads into the Maine Woods for Real, Authentic Learning.
9th grade is high school’s “make-or-break” year - failing a class during one’s freshman year means you’re far less likely to graduate. GPA’s, student engagement and attendance are all lower. To address this challenge, Bethel’s Telstar High School has teamed up with community partners to send every freshman to their own school, in the woods of western Maine, for the entire school year, where they work together to solve real-world, community problems. So far, it's working.
