EPISODE FOUR: LIMESTONE COMMUNITY SCHOOL
In Northern Aroostook County, These Middle Schoolers Spend Nearly Every Day Outside -- And They're More Connected to Their Learning.
Several years ago, educators in this small, rural school launched a bold strategy to transform school climate and boost attendance: they redesigned the middle school curriculum with a focus on nature and outdoors. Now, students learn science and math by heading outside nearly every day. Tapping maple trees. Canoeing. Gardening. Farming. The hyper-local focus is helping students find more meaning in their learning – and making more students excited to go to school.
