Lawrence High Custodian Sings National Anthem

An article, recently published in the Waterville Morning Sentinel and the Portland Press Herald, tells the story of Lawrence High School’s singing custodian - Mr. Terrance Coley Sr.

He often sings the national anthem at Lawrence High athletic events, including on March 3rd when the Lawrence girls won the 2023 Class A State Girls Basketball Championship.

Mr. Coley grew up in New York City, where he was a member of the Harlem Boys Choir.

Today he is still singing as he works, though he is, “…careful not to interrupt the schoolwork around him.”

The article goes on to say that, “…when he stops singing, students and faculty will come looking for him asking what's wrong,” because, as Mr. Coley says, “If I don't, these kids, they get thrown off."

Clearly, Mr. Coley cares about the kids.
